R01AG103545 is titled: Understanding and enhancing interoception toward reducing exploitation risk in aging and ADRD: Mechanisms and trainability.
Aging is associated with deficits in deception detection, contributing to the growing public health problem of elder exploitation, which is pronounced among individuals with cognitive impairments. This project will (i) delineate specific mechanisms that facilitate deception detection in older adults including those with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia; and (ii) identify pathways to improved interoception and deception detection in a representative sample of cognitively healthy older adults and those with Mild Cognitive Impairment, the intermediate clinical stage between normal cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s Disease. In doing so, the project will inform health intervention via interoception training toward reducing exploitation risk in aging.
