IOA Visits P.K. Yonge

Dr. Manini speaks to classroom at P.K. Yonge about aging research

On April 16th, 2026, the 6th/7th Grade Biomedical Science course at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School, a diverse PreK-12th grade school, hosted the UF Institute on Aging. IOA Director Todd Manini and Ruby Sullivan represented the Institute, giving students the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities related to research on aging, such as grip strength, blood-oxygen levels, and indirect calorimetry measurement.

STEM Instructor Tanya Augsondthung said, “Overall, it was a valuable experience that brought classroom materials to life.” The IOA looks forward to introducing more youth to the field of aging research, with plans for Dr. Manini to return in May to collaborate with P.K. Yonge high schoolers.
