The UF Institute on Aging is pleased to welcome Stefano Cacciatore, MD, who joined the Institute as a Visiting Researcher in December 2025, supported by the Ermenegildo Zegna Founder’s Scholarship.

Dr. Cacciatore is a board-certified geriatrician and clinician-scientist trained in epidemiology and biostatistics at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, Italy. His research focuses on healthy aging and the preservation of function across the adult life course, with interests spanning sarcopenia and muscle health, as well as lifestyle and cardiometabolic determinants of functional decline.

Through his involvement in community-based prevention programs, he developed a strong interest in population health and early intervention. This experience has informed a research agenda increasingly centered on the World Health Organization healthy aging framework and intrinsic capacity, a multidimensional construct describing an individual’s overall functional abilities, with a focus on its determinants and clinical relevance across aging trajectories.

He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the Editorial Board of BMC Geriatrics. We are delighted to have him as part of the UF IOA community.
