Cogratulations to Dr. Rui Xiao, for being awarded the highly competitive American Cancer Society (ACS) Research Scholar Grant. The ACS Research Scholar Grants support investigator-initiated projects across the cancer research continuum. With the support of this grant, Dr. Xiao will investigate how novel nuclear phosphatases modulate aging and stress responses in both C. elegans and mouse. ~ 80% of human genes have homologs in C. elegans. Due to its short lifespan and powerful genetics, C.elegans provides an excellent model organism to identify and study the evolutionarily conserved signaling pathways involved in both aging and tumorigenesis. Dr. Xiao’s studies will provide invaluable molecular insights into the functions of nuclear phosphatases in animal aging and tumorigenesis.
